Emotions literally shape who we are. They fuel our vitality, resolve, authenticity, resilience, and integrity -- qualities we need to competently face the challenges of life and support our loved ones and local neighborhoods.
However, suffering caused by trauma, neglect, loss, and/or social oppression, can force us to contend with emotions that are often too painful, disheartening and terrifying to bear. In order to cope, we learn to bury our true feelings, create competent-looking facades and ignore formative experiences that unknowingly continue to undermine us, our relationships, our work life and our communities today. This is a recipe for depression, anxiety and other forms of unhappiness.
I’m Here to Help
Twenty nine years of experience as a psychotherapist and extensive training in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, EMDR, Internal Family systems therapy and psychodrama have taught me that simply talking or thinking about our problems doesn't change them. Feeling better in a sustainable way requires a focus on the body and resolving emotional memories that keep us tied to the past. Feeling better also involves getting more comfortable with positive emotions linked to experiences of care, connection, strength, security, aliveness, wholeness and personal truth.
My goal for our work together is to bring you relief —- to feel better in ways that will “stick”. In a comfortable and supportive atmosphere, I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to your individual needs and goals for change.
Though I identify as a straight, white, middle aged cis gender, male, I welcome diversity of all kinds, including sexual orientation, gender, race, country of origin, ethnicity, ability, age, religion and size. All are welcome . . .
